Youth is Served at Goodguys 20th Summer Get-Together

The Goodguys 20th Summer Get-Together welcomed the spirit of youthful exuberance this past weekend at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA as the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow “Engine Challenge” made it’s Goodguys debut on June 1st.

The Engine Challenge is a timed competition between two 6-man high school teams to see which one can tear down and rebuild a V8 Chevy engine the fastest using only hand tools. Livermore High School’s R.O.P. dept will field two teams. Santa Clara’s Wilcox High School will also field a team representing Northern California. Katella High, Rancho Alamitos and Calabasas High will represent Southern California. In addition, two teams, Thomas County Central and Peach County High School will come all the way from Georgia to compete in the two-day competition.

As many as ten high school teams will battle it out in the Hot Rodder’s of Tomorrow Engine Challenge at this weekend’s Goodguys 20th  Summer Get-Together

It’s not the only nod to the hot rodders of tomorrow (and today). A new “Good Beer” garden offered craft beers from local and domestic breweries, and  there was live music from the Diablo Valley College “Rhythm, Rock & Blues Review” from 11am-4pm Saturday June 1st. 25 bands of students will cover rock, jazz, Motown, doo wop, country western and more.

Inside the Young California Building, there was a special “Muscle-Palooza” exhibit featuring Detroit Muscle Cars from the 1960s ’til today, and a special exhibit of custom handmade bicycles from the South Bay’s “Behind Bars Inc” bicycle shop will take over the Hall of Commerce.

Out on the paved black top, engines screamed during the fast and exciting Goodguys AutoCross competition. Hundreds of cars competed on the timed course during the weekend in five different competition divisions.

All of this was in addition to the usual Goodguys gear including the popular swap meet & cars-for-sale-corral as well as a bevy of manufacturer’s exhibits, special parking areas and more.

“Youth was served indeed,” expressed Goodguys President Marc Meadors. “We were excited to offer these new event activities for younger car enthusiasts at the Summer Get-Together. The beauty of a Goodguys Get-Together event format featuring all years, makes and models of show cars is it appeals to many different generations. You’ve got high school kids and grandpa’s showing off cars and enjoying the atmosphere together,” he said. “With these new event activities and attractions. Goodguys has always been about having fun with cars.”

Thousands of colorful cars, live music, AutoCross racing and special exhibits highlight this weekend’s Goodguys 20th Summer Get-Together in Pleasanton.
