American Collectors Insurance Your chance to choose from the roads less traveled

October 2012 | Issue #10

We have the cars.
We have the crew.
Now all we need are directions.

Last month we shared news about our new web series called American Detours. Well, voting is now open! American Collectors Insurance is letting customers like you pick the direction in which our upcoming American Detours webisode series goes — literally.

The basic idea behind this show is that we’ll send a camera crew to a great American road and drive a different customer’s car on it in every episode. Along the way, we’ll showcase the car and the owner, as well as visit great local sites. Think of it as us doing the recon for your future dream road trips.

The pilot edition of the show is already set for the historic and scenic Brandywine Valley in southeastern Chester County, PA. But YOU control the location of future episodes by voting for your favorite classic American roads.

While the US is packed with outstanding driver’s roads, we’re hoping to visit some of the less obvious choices — roads that are more “off the beaten path.” To help narrow the field, we had an expert panel assemble a list of 12 American classics. And now we want you to help us trim the list down even further for our first season of shows.

To cast your vote and help choose the direction American Detours will take this season, simply visit our dedicated American Detours poll page on our website or the American Collectors Facebook page. You’ll find complete instructions and an online poll at each place.

The polls are open this week with our first round of 6 choices. Be sure to vote for your favorite road in round one. Here’s a preview:

American Detours Round 1 Choices

US 1 (Florida), Miami Beach to Key West
Miami Beach is the land of glitz and glamour. But soon you’re going along the edge of the Everglades. The driving highlight of the route is the chain of bridges connecting 36 keys, including Seven Mile Bridge.

Texas Hill Country
Texas Hill Country has a wide range of geology and culture from sophisticated Austin to remote and dusty ranches. It includes several very significant car collections and is one of the hot spots for American barbecue.

Route 33, North of Ojai, California
A short drive north of Los Angeles, Route 33 is rich with beautiful views of oceans, mountains, and canyons. What more can you ask for in a scenic drive?

Arizona 87, Scottsdale to Sedona
From the valleys of Phoenix to the piney heights, Route 87 climbs more than a mile high, twice. The views have to be seen to be believed, and we’ll include a swing over the red rocks of Sedona.

Iowa Route 6, River-to-River Road
Iowa’s Route 6 was the first completed segment of what became the first transcontinental road. Many of the sections have been restored to their original glory, including their famous white posts.

Monongahela National Forest/Route 39, West Virginia
Route 39 in West Virginia is a great driving route with over 100 miles of highlands and curves. There are any number of paved and unpaved roads through coal country but our real fun starts north at Charmco – it gets twistier every mile until the end!

With choices like these, there are no losers. And that’s just the first round!

You can make your selection based on your own experience with each destination or simply because you’ve always wanted to visit a place. It’s up to you. Keep in mind that part of every show includes a barbecue for local American Collectors customers, so if you want to meet our team and check out some cool rides, vote for a road that’s within driving distance of your home.

If playing “backseat navigator” for American Detours isn’t enough to compel you to vote today, here’s another good reason: American Collectors is giving away a $100 American Express gift card to one voter every day the polls are open. That’s 14 lucky winners! But you can’t win if you don’t vote.

Voting for round one ends October 21st. Round two opens October 23rd and runs until October 29th.
