3:00 A.M. on Saturday, Sept.20th; Can't sleep, gotta get up soon anyway;
Going to get picked up at 4:45 A.M. and Charlie is usually early. Gotta take
out Moe, my dog, before I leave. There's Charlie and we're off! 3+ hours later
we're at the gate of the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds in Burlington, Vt. waiting
to get into the NSRA NorthEast Street Rod Nationals. The gate opens at 8:00 A.M.
and we're off to check out almost 1500 cars on a cloudy and windy day - At least
we won't be too hot and sweaty. There's Bill and Linda Yorker with their "ABSURD"
Model-A coupe (Chopped, channeled, widened w/wild paint and a 1300 HP Blown Hemi to move it along(a show stopper to say the least); Always great to see them.
A little later I run into "Jungle" Jim Mosher and his Wife, Becky; Jim knows
how much I like his little chopped and channeled Deuce 5-Window so he taunts me
by letting me sit in it as he pretends to be me by taking pictures of me in it -
Some day it may find it's way to my garage, but he didn't hand me the keys so it
wasn't today.
Next I run into my friends that just became members of the 80/80/80 club; George
and Krista are still cruising and that exclusive club means he is 80 years old, she
is 80 years old, and they've got 80,000 miles on their Olds street Rod coupe. Yes,
they're still trying to feed me as they always do when I see them; Great to spend
some time with them!
Dave is here with his Pro-572 Camaro; He's everywhere and enjoying it always.
So many nice vehicles as usual; Several we've seen before but always many new ones.
Making new friends, taking pictures and almost Noon, so it's time for one of those
great sausage grinders loaded with peppers and onions, and a cold one to top it off.
Back to the business of taking pictures. There's Dave from back home; We compare
notes on favorite vehicles so far 'cuz we still have tons to see. Look at that
radical truck - That'll be my buddy Tom's pick for the show. More guys from back
home so I stop and talk with Tom and Denny; Gary and John's cars are there, but
they're off and about; Maybe I'll run into them later.
Lots of Canadian cars make it to this show and they sure do build some beauties!
The day ends too quickly as usual and it's time to head back to Western Mass; 3+
hours later and Home Sweet Home! A great day comes to an end!
I hope you enjoy my pictures as I'm done for the season; Lots of things to do
before the snow flies.
Take Care,
Walt
