2024 RIDLER WINNER - 1953 Chevrolet Corvette -Dave & Tracy Maxwell
Nearly a complete re-imagining of a 1953 Corvette, called TWELVEAIR is the product of Kindig-It Design. A completely ground-up design, this car took more than five years to build. Though it shares nothing with a stock '53 Corvette, it's instantly recognizable as America's Sports Car. As if the fully hand-crafted body wasn't enough, the engine is a one-off V-12 built by Race Cast Engineering. Based on LS architecture, the engine displaces a whopping 9.2 liters. The engine runs on Haltech's Nexus EFI and is paired to a rear-mounted 8L90E transmission. Cantilevered coilover shocks round out the custom suspension, and the wheels are custom designed for this car by Dave Kindig. Back to the car's body—unlike a Corvette, this was built entirely by hand out of aluminum. Custom is the word inside, too, as the entire dash, console, and inserts were 3D printed. The exterior styling is inspired by an early Corvette concept car called the Corvair.
