48th Auto Club NHRA Finals

On November 8 thru 11, 2012 the 48th Annual NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Finals were contested at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, CA.  Excitement was high as this year the champions in all 4 “Pro” classes had not been decided prior to these Series Finals.  Also, this event will decide the 2012 Lucas Oil Champions.  Over 500 racers came from 7 geographical divisions around the United States.  They represented the best in 16 classes competing not only for a “Finals” event win, but also the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series championship.  The racing action included a few pauses due to rain, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday the weather was clear and warm with little impact on a very fast track. 

“Nitro Alley” was packed with rows and rows of vendors showing their wares.  Rows and rows of stands served all kinds of food.  In the pits was a vintage corral full of 30+ restored historic front engined dragsters and beautiful funny cars that all did a “Cacklefest” twice a day.  As though that wasn’t enough to satisfy your “Gearhead” needs, the pits had hundreds of amazing racecars to check out.  You could also pick up some great souvenirs or get the autograph of your favorite driver.

This year, after 40+ years, popular NHRA announcer Bob Frey announced his retirement.  His knowledge and voice will be missed.  This was also the last year of Full Throttle Energy drink as the NHRA Drag Racing Series sponsor.  The new sponsor is shown below.

Antron Brown, Jack Beckman, Del Worsham, Matt Hagan, Larry Dixon, John Force, Tony Schumacher and Robert Hight are the only NHRA Drag Racing Series Champions at the current 1000 foot distance.  Quarter mile elapsed time and speed records can only be challenged on a quarter mile track
