The Detroit Autorama Extreme - Traditional Style Rods & Customs

The 100,000 square foot hall was the scene for the Autorama Extreme, showcasing the newest segment of hot rodding that featured over 200 traditional, “old school”, historic, hot rods and customs, custom bikes & bobbers, and period vehicles. These are often associated with the earliest days of hot rodding in the ‘30’s to the ‘50’s or ‘60’s. They are now being preserved or recreated by people who even make it a lifestyle. This retro-nostalgia has a huge following, and everyone remembers their own version of it. There were performances by rockabilly bands, and the famous Vinsetta Garage restaurant sponsored the vintage calendar girl pin up competition for Miss Autorama. This year 48 women participated in a wide variety of period wear and hair styles. A very popular feature was the Gene Winfield, All America Chop Shop. There he oversaw the chopping of a 1937 Chevy coupe top over the weekend. Bicycles, minibikes, and some amazing motorcycles of every vintage and style were numerous. There were many artists displaying a wide variety of styles and offerings to fit every pocket book. This popular display will continue to grow and evolve as a unique alternative to the conventional indoor show.
